Senior Architectural Designer

Job Description

SPEC Construction, a leader in ICI Building construction and renewal projects in the KW and surrounding area, is currently looking to add a Senior Architectural Designer to their highly specialized and successful team. We are well-established, highly reputable company focusing on fulfilling the building construction needs of developers, municipalities, and industrial commercial customers in KW and the surrounding area.

This is a full-time, permanent position rewarded by competitive compensation and a solid benefits package.


Scope of Responsibilities:


  • Supervise the Junior Architectural Designer working closely to develop site plan and permit drawings for design build projects; initial design of renderings, providing training and guidance as required;
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, building permit drawings, foundation plans, floor plans, functional planning designs and renderings, visit potential work sites, as required; for the design build projects;
  • Perform site plan applications, building permit applications and building code reviews, working closely with consultants and the municipal building department;
  • Communicate effectively with Owners and Architects and in a professional manner to develop your relationships and ensure repeat business;
  • Work with the Design-Build team to perform needs-analyses and create conceptual designs for all new bids and projects, respond to client inquiries/concerns; review for building code standards;
  • Work with Project Manager(s) to plan a construction project timeline and prepare a construction schedule (preliminary and/or final) in conjunction with the Project Superintendent, as required;
  • Be a resource for Project Manager(s), Estimators and Project Superintendents as the construction of a project progresses;
  • Assist in preparing proposal packages for tendered, design-build and private work;
  • Report to Spec Construction’s Senior Management, Clients and Consultants on design schedule;
  • Communicate and building positive relationships with Site Superintendents, sub-trades, landlords and regulators
  • Identify potential design and construction challenges; problem solving on the job site
  • Chair site meetings and participating in Client meetings (in person or via voice/video conference)
  • Other duties may be assigned as required

  • University/college graduate with a relevant degree or diploma
  • At least fifteen years’ experience in design-build and pre-construction
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent leadership abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD and Revit
  • Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings and construction specifications
  • Solid knowledge of the Ontario Building Code
  • Valid driver’s license
