Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario

Junior Architectural Technologist

Posted on: March 31st, 2017

Job Description

Architect seeks Junior Architectural Technologist for freelance / contract work to support a growing practice in custom residential and small commercial projects.

In a small practice workloads ebb and flow. A junior architectural technologist is needed to assist during busy periods. Candidates enjoy working in a freelance-style arrangement. Work will be based on clearly defined scope, deadlines and fee. It is expected some time will be spent in the office for coordination, communication and collaboration. Completing assignments outside of the office on your own schedule is endorsed as long as quality and deadlines are met. Candidates also enjoy dogs or at least tolerate them in the office.

Responsibilities:

Work with the Architect to collaborate on construction drawing sets for custom single family residences and small commercial projects.

Review OBC compliance for Part 3 and Part 9 buildings.

Zoning review for projects.

May include assisting with developing office CAD / BIM standards.

May include preparing or completing design elements via 3D modeling software – Sketchup.

Qualifications:

You are probably young, hip, know all the current software and the latest lingo but, you still know how to use a pencil and convince someone of your ideas with it.

You have knowledge of the Ontario Building Code Part 3 and Part 9 but not just from a course you took a few years ago. You can demonstrate how you helped resolve OBC issues on a design project.

Ideally you do or can operate on AutoCAD for MAC for construction drawings. Yes, AutoCAD for MAC. I am serious.

It is preferred that your AT education was in Ontario.

Members of AATO are preferred.

Two to five years of experience is expected to be suitable for this work.

All resumés will be reviewed and kept on file. Suitable applicants will be contacted for interviews.
