Assistant Supervisor – Structural

Job Description

This is a 1-year contract position (from February 13, 2017 to March 8, 2018)

Bring your leadership skills as well as your qualifications and experience in a licensed trade, engineering or architecture to the Peel District School Board Maintenance Services team.

Reporting to the Structural Supervisor of Maintenance Services, you will manage, and respond to, the system’s structural maintenance repair and replacement needs, ensuring the safe and maintained condition of Peel District School Board buildings and their availability for continuous use. More specifically, your areas of accountability as an Assistant Supervisor – Structural will include:

  • supervising unionized trades staff and contractors;
  • ensuring and checking the structural integrity of building components – roofing, paving, site work, interior and exterior walls, carpentry, fencing, glazing, hardware, locksmith, doors, windows;
  • troubleshooting and monitoring work of in-house and contract workers;
  • establishing and enforcing health and safety regulations;
  • co-coordinating schedules to minimize disruption to Board facilities;
  • monitoring actual performance/value against allocated budget;
  • controlling inventory of material;
  • estimating project work;
  • communicating with relevant Board personnel, government officials, contractors and other personnel involved with completion of work;
  • facilitating all permits;
  • responsibility for mechanical work in the operation of folding partitions, moveable walls, etc.;
  • developing and implementing an effective Preventative Maintenance program;
  • developing short- and long-term plans for structural-related maintenance and upgrading;
  • developing and implementing an effective program for computerization of structural service processes and records; and
  • performing other duties, as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

As an Assistant Supervisor – Structural, you will be able to apply your:

  • Ontario Certificate of Qualification in a relevant licensed trade or diploma/degree in Engineering or Architecture and a minimum of five (5) years’ related experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with supervisory experience in an institutional environment.
  • Ability to evaluate and assess structural integrity of buildings and building systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with subordinates, other Board personnel and contractors.
  • Knowledge of Building Codes, Building Science, Health and Safety Legislation, Ministry of Labour Standards and union contracts.
  • Strong Microsoft Office computer skills.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence (Class G) and the use of a personal vehicle.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment.
